"Monocle" International Monodrama Festival

This is a unique Festival where well-known actors are presented on the background of provocative experiments in the sphere of modern theatre.

Organized yearly since 1997, once in two years

By tradition the Festival consists of two stages – St. Petersburg one (held in February) and international (held in March).

Founders: Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, Culture Committee of St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg division of the Theatre Workers Union of the Russian Federation (All-Russian Theatre Association), Baltic International Festival Center Foundation, BALTIC HOUSE Theatre-Festival

Included in the International Mono-Performances Festivals and One Man Theatre Laboratories sine 2005

The Festival was initiated by St. Petersburg performers’ community and all these years it makes for popularization of St. Petersburg theatre art.  The MONOCLE presents all the range of performances where the actor is its main character.

For many actors mono-performance is a precious genre, for it is a test of their talent and technique.

In the past years the Monocle became supposedly one of the most favorite theatre forums among the actors.  Its participants were Armen Dzhigarkhanyan, Sofiko Chiaureli, Alla Demidova, Alisa Freindlich, Sergei Yursky, Yevgeni Grishkovetz, Alexei Devotchenko, Sergei Barkovskii, Igor Volkov, Valentinas Masalskis, Aleksandras  Rubinovas and other Russian and foreign performers .

The MONOCLE is a prize-winning festival.  Competitors are judged by the jury in a few nominations: Grand Prix, First, Second and Third Prizes.

Geography of the MONOCLE Festival includes Belorussia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Germany, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Finland, Croatia, Sweden, Yugoslavia, and Estonia.
